The Wrecking Crew – Official Trailer

'The Wrecking Crew' tells of the unsung muso's behind many smash hits of the 1960’s

The Wrecking Crew: The Beach Boys, Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Sonny & Cher, Nat King Cole and many, many more. Behind their success was a group of studio musicians called The Wrecking Crew. What the Funk Brothers did for Motown,  The Wrecking Crew did, only bigger, for the West Coast Sound. Six years in a row in the 1960s and early 1970s, the Grammy for “Record of the Year” went to Wrecking Crew recordings. And now, ‘The Wrecking Crew’ tells the story in pictures and that oh, so glorious sound. ‘The Wrecking Crew’ is a documentary film produced and directed by Denny Tedesco, son of legendary late Wrecking Crew guitarist Tommy Tedesco, and tells the story of the unsung musicians that provided the backbeat, the bottom and the swinging melody that drove many of the number one hits of the 1960’s. The Wrecking Crew was a nickname coined by drummer Hal Blaine for the group of studio and session musicians that played anonymously on many of these recordings. The crew backed dozens of popular singers, and were one of the most successful groups of studio musicians in music history. The Wrecking Crew’s members were musically versatile but typically had formal backgrounds in jazz or classical music. The talents of this group of “first call” players were used on almost every style of recording including television theme songs, film scores, advertising jingles and almost every genre of American popular music, from The Monkees to Bing Crosby. Notable artists employing the Wrecking Crew’s talents included Nancy Sinatra, Bobby Vee, The Partridge Family, The Mamas & the Papas, The 5th Dimension, The Association, The Carpenters, Glen Campbell, Cher, John Denver, The Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, The Grass Roots and Nat King Cole. The record producers most often associated with the Wrecking Crew are Phil Spector, who used the Crew to create his trademark “Wall of Sound”; and Beach Boys member and songwriter Brian Wilson, who used the Crew’s talents on many of his mid-1960s productions including the songs “Good Vibrations” and “California Girls”. LOVE – Can’t wait to see this doco in full! Check out the trailer below:

Apple Watch & New MacBook

Apple products continue to innovate and impress

Apple: A further and more in-depth look into the new Apple Watch and the new MacBook were announced at a live Apple event in San Francisco, California. So awesome!! And although the Apple Watch is clearly the most exciting new kid on the block, it is definitely the new MacBook that is the talk of the town. Apple’s new MacBook now becomes the thinnest notebook ever at just 13.1mm at its thickest point and a weight of just under a 1kg (907 grams). The newly designed Apple MacBook runs silently with a fanless logic board that is 67% smaller than the 11-inch MacBook Air. The batteries themselves have been redesigned as well, allowing them to be built with a contoured design to maximise the available space. The result provides enough power for all-day battery life, according to Apple. One major change is that the Apple MacBook features just one single USB-C port that will be used for multiple purposes including charging, video output, and USB data transfer. USB-C also has a reversible design, eliminating frustration when trying to orient a USB cable correctly. The new notebook is available in space grey, silver, and gold tones, and in two different versions. One version starts at $1,299 (USD) with a 1.1GHz Intel Core M processor, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of flash storage. The $1,599 version (USD) has a 1.2GHz processor, 8GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. Both versions of the new MacBook will be available in the United States beginning 10th April, 2015. The Apple Watch is Apple’s first wearable device that will be launched on 24th April, 2015. The Apple Watch collection features highly polished stainless steel and space black stainless steel cases. The display is protected by sapphire crystal. And there’s a choice of three different leather bands, a link bracelet, a Milanese loop, and a band made from high-performance fluoroelastomer. Siri is also integrated allowing users to experience the familiarity of features found on other Apple devices such as navigation, keeping track of events, and messaging friends. Take a look at both the Apple Watch and the new MacBook below:

Joywave – Video of the Day

Joywave's new surreal music video 'Somebody New'

Joywave: When modern-day skateboarding meets what seems like the visual glitches of video game Grand Theft Auto V, you get ‘Somebody New’ the new surreal music video for the band Joywave, directed by Keith Schofield and produced by Three Foot Giant. In Rochester, New York, indie electro band Joywave began in 2010, formed by vocalist Daniel Armbruster, guitarist Joseph Morinelli, bassist Sean Donnelly, keyboardist Travis Johansen, and drummer Paul Brenner. Joywave first offered up a sample of their ’80s-inspired electro tunes with the Golden State single in early 2011. They earned a fair amount of attention through a series of online mixtapes that meshed original tunes with other artists’ materials, all remixed to include Joywave’s signature playing and vocals. In addition to these mixtapes and early single releases, the band released the Koda Vista EP in 2012 and the How Do You Feel? EP in 2014. Apart from their own releases, Joywave have made frequent guest appearances on their friends’ singles, showing up in the role of both remixers and guest performers on standout recordings by Big Data and Betty Who. Joywave are perhaps best known for their collaboration with electronic music project Big Data, Dangerous, which peaked at number one on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. Also achieving considerable popularity was Joywave’s Tongues, featuring KOPPS; as of November 2014, the official music video had surpassed 350,000 views on YouTube. The song has also reached over 1 million plays on SoundCloud and has been featured on FIFA 15. In July of 2014, Joywave, along with Big Data, made their late night television debut on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Check out their awesome video for ‘Somebody New’ below:

Milo Greene – The Most Epic Lies of all Time

Milo Greene's 'Lie to Me' Mash-up Vid is our Track of the Day

Milo Greene: Everyone loves a good lie – or rather, uncovering one. It’s newsworthy, it’s scandalous and it’s hard to look away. So it’s only fitting that, to visualise their song ‘Lie to Me’, indie-electro quartet Milo Greene created a mash-up of some of the most monumental lies and scandals throughout history, particularly in the pop culture realm. From Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Teresa and Joe Giudice’s assorted crimes to Bill Clinton’s infamous statement, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman,” this video, contains some particularly cringe-worthy material. If you haven’t heard of Milo Greene before, know that: A. It’s a not a singular person named Milo, it’s a band; and B. It isn’t your average band. Each member of the quartet — Graham FinkMarlana SheetzRobbie Arnett and Andrew Heringer  – is a distinct songwriter and vocal duties alternate. Accordingly, Milo Greene’s sound is as varied and ever-changing as their non-defined roles. “The sound has evolved, but this band is the four of us as writers and singers,” says Fink. “It’s very centered both on our vocal presences and our identities as writers. We come from different perspectives, so that cross-section is what makes us distinct from what we would be as individuals. It’s the sum-of-the-parts thing.” The band describe their sound by explaining, “Originally when we started this band we wanted to create music that we could potentially see being placed in movies and TV,” says singer/multi-instrumentalist Sheetz. “We really love scoring and that’s how we wanted the music to sound. Very cinematic – which is kind of why we like to call it cinematic-pop.” Milo Greene is the name of a fictitious booking agent, a persona created by the band to help them get gigs in the early days of playing shows. The band describes Milo’s identity: “He’s British. He wears a three-piece-suit. He wears a monocle. He’s albino. He has chops, sideburns. He’s confident, charming, well-read, well-spoken. He’s a gentleman, the kind of guy we all aspire to be.” The band decided to keep the name of their fictitious booking agent for the group. This completely collaborative and unconventionally structured band is making waves so check them out. Milo Greene’s new album Control was released in January 2015 and is available now.

Charlotte OC – Video of the Day

Charlotte OC's new video 'If My House Was Burning'

Charlotte OC: TFIF and we stumbled across this awesome new track and video from Charlotte OC entitled If My House Was Burning. Charlotte O’Connor, better known by her stage name Charlotte OC, is a British singer-songwriter that the BBC classed as “tipped for success in 2014” and named as “one to watch” by Digital Spy. Charlotte OC was signed and dropped by record label Columbia in her late teens but worked her way back with her debut EP “Colour My Heart” which was released by Stranger Records, an early home of Lana Del Rey. In July 2014, she played on the BBC Introducing stage at T In The Park Festival, supporting her latest EP “Strange”, released by Harvest Records in the US and Polydor in the UK. Musically, Charlotte OC is influenced by electronic sounds (such as that heard in legendary Berlin clubs like Berghain) and as her parents surrounded her with folk and soul music, she lists Alicia Keys, Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed, Joni Mitchell, Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday and Marvin Gaye among her major influences. Charlotte OC’s new track is an intoxicating mix of emotional lyrics and heady, thick vocals. The 22 year old, Blackburn born singer has spread her wings and recorded and produced a supernatural meets broken down Hollywood track and video. There is a spooky and bewitching sound to the song that is powered along by underlying beats and earthy melodies pulsating throughout. Charlotte OC draws on an influence that through darkness there is beauty; an idea that dawned upon her and is perfectly woven throughout her work and this video perfectly compliments the track in light of this. With a definite overtone of mystical beauty, her music feels contemporary, spiritual and almost, on occasion, neon disco occultist. Love it! So check Charlotte OC’s new video out – I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Walt Disney & the MultiPlane Camera

Walt Disney was inventing the future of animation

Walt Disney: We have seen different techniques imagined by Walt Disney to help his animators create masterpieces, like the rotoscoping technique or the use of simple mirrors. But to invent the future of animation, Walt Disney was often at the forefront, as shown in this video filmed in 1957 explaining the principle of the MultiPlane Camera which allowed animators to create depth effects never seen before at the time. Walt Disney (1901-1966) was an American business magnate, cartoonist, animator, voice actor, and film producer. As a prominent figure within the American animation industry and throughout the world, he is regarded as a cultural icon, known for his influence and contributions to entertainment during the twentieth century. As a Hollywood business mogul, he and his brother Roy O. Disney co-founded The Walt Disney Company. As an animator and entrepreneur, Walt Disney was particularly noted as a filmmaker and a popular showman, as well as an innovator in animation and theme park design. He and his staff created numerous fictional characters including Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy. Walt Disney himself was the original voice for Mickey. During his lifetime, he received four honorary Academy Awards and won 22 Academy Awards from a total of 59 nominations, including a record of four in one year, giving him more awards and nominations than any other individual in history. Walt Disney also won seven Emmy Awards and gave his name to the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in the U.S., as well as the international resorts, Tokyo Disney ResortDisneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland. Walt Disney died on December 15, 1966, from lung cancer in Burbank, California. He left behind a vast legacy, including numerous animated shorts and feature films produced during his lifetime; the company, parks, an animation studio that bear his name; and the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). You can jump directly to 3:23 for the MultiPlane Camera demonstration. Florence + The Machine – Video of the Day

Florence + The Machine's new video ‘What Kind Of Man’

Florence + The Machine are back: Dropping on 12th February 2015, we were so happy to watch Florence + The Machine’s new video What Kind Of Man which is taken from their forthcoming album How Big How Blue How Beautiful which will be officially released on 1st June 2015. Earlier this week, the band unveiled the album’s title track (and music video). On What Kind of Man, the group opt for a more classic rock firepower with searing guitar riffs weaved between Florence Welch’s high-flying vocals. We always knew the front woman had bite, but this track just might be her fiercest one yet. The video for What Kind of Man was directed by Vincent Haycock and choreographed by Ryan Heffington. How Big How Blue How Beautiful serves as the follow-up to Florence + The Machine’s 2011 smash Ceremonials. It was written over the course of two years in London and Los Angeles and recorded alongside producer Markus Dravs (Arcade Fire, Coldplay, Björk). It also features contributions from Goldfrapp’s Will Gregory, Paul Epworth, Kid Harpoon, and John Hill. Regarding the LP, Welch commented ‘I guess although I’ve always dealt in fantasy and metaphor when I came to writing, that meant the songs this time were dealing much more in reality. Ceremonials was so fixated on death and water, and the idea of escape or transcendence through death, but the new album became about trying to learn how live, and how to love in the world rather than trying to escape from it. Which is frightening because I’m not hiding behind anything but it felt like something I had to do.’ Can’t wait for this album to drop!
