Flashback Friday: First airing in Melbourne on the 28th February 1983 and recorded on Betamax, McDonald’s Australia served us up a nice big budget, yet slightly schlocky, Broadway style production number inspired by earlier 1970s American television advertising. Well done, Macca’s – it’s this high level of fast food aspiration that has earned you a place in Australian pop cultural hearts forever.

Set for release in February 2017, we love the teaser trailer for Zaschitniki (Guardians), an upcoming Russian superhero film directed by Sarik Andreasyan, that follows a motley group of Soviet superheroes who fight villainous foes in the USSR during the cold war. Da da da! 🙂

So Mermaid School is a Thing

In the heat of the New York summer, Gothamist associate editor Rebecca Fishbein and videographer Jessica Leibowitz spent a day in Coney Island, Brooklyn visiting the World of Swimming‘s Mermaid School. The skilled instructors at the school teach the students how to swim like a mermaid, a feat that requires a great deal of core strength, and in doing so, encourage self-confidence and pride. Ummm ok, sure…it’s all fun and games until someone drowns. Merman…Merman! 😉
