Michael Murphy: We love these fascinating suspended sculptures by Brooklyn, NY artist Michael Murphy, who uses hundreds of suspended elements to create one final image visible from a single point of view. His latest creation, ‘Perceptual Shift’, is made up of 1200 black spheres, forming a perfectly shaped eye if you’re in exactly the right spot and is currently visible at the I.M.A.G.E. gallery. Donna Stevens: We love the work of New York based, Australian photographer and artist Donna Stevens, who through her ‘Idiot Box’ series, photographs children while they’re watching television, capturing the mesmerised faces, passive and slightly zombified, and exploring the relationship we all share with technology and the media. Fantastic stuff! 🙂
Nicolas Monterrat: We love these amazing historical animated GIFs by French photographer Nicolas Monterrat, who “enhances” old historical photographs and turns them into strange, twisted, and outstanding pieces of contemporary art. Awesome work! 🙂
Can Pekdemir: We are so intrigued by this unique series of strange and surreal portraits from designer Can Pekdemir, who manipulates and distorts the bones of his models to create slighty scary and uncomfortable organic imagery. Can Pekdemir notes ‘My studies are focused on reconstructing and deforming the bodies by either altering the physical conditions in which the entity exists, and/or treating them as test subjects for virtual experiments while reshaping the systems we now have and thus documenting the evolvement in time.’ Such beautiful and interesting pieces!
Quack Fat: Directed and animated by Dropbear, it took 240 audio cassettes, 5,600 feet of video tape, 108 floppy discs and 1 retro walkman to create this masterpiece official music video for ‘Quack Fat’ by Opiuo. Check it out below – Amazing work! 🙂
Caiffa Cosimo: Loving the work of Italian street artist Caiffa Cosimo, also known as ‘Cheone’, who has painted a series of street art portraits that appear to be interacting with the roads beside them. Awesome!
The Grand Overlook Hotel: We really love ‘The Grand Overlook Hotel’ by Steve Ramsden which is a very clever mashup between the movies ‘The Shining’ and ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’. The universe of Wes Anderson meets the world of Stanley Kubrick and Stephen King – Fantastic work!
Hot Dogs: This strange yet interesting ‘IDK about these Hotdogs’ series, created by an anonymous photographer from New York, captures simple hot dogs in the most unusual situations and places, leaving the door open to the most absurd and funny interpretations. Mmmm delicious – Happy Friday! 🙂
