Yuichi Ikehata: An impressive body of work situated between illusion and reality, Fragment of Long Term Memory is a fascinating series by Japanese artist Yuichi Ikehata, who blends sculpture, photography, wire, ceramic, and paper to create surreal images representing incomplete and blurred memories of her own body.
CNN: Transporting us back to the golden age of aviation, CNN have compiled a selection of vintage photographs from a time when airlines were selling globetrotting dreams and high-end luxury. The exact opposite of today’s low cost carriers, these photographs from the 50s and 60s remind us that air travel was once synonymous with fashion, cocktails, luxury, glamour, gastronomy, and social status although it did come at a price – a Sydney to London round trip cost the equivalent of thirty weeks wages! Bobbugs: A prop master for U.S. TV shows, Michael Gump, aka Bobbugs, has created Master of Disguise, an awesome project where he covers himself with assorted colourful objects, such as LEGO, plastic ducks, cotton buds, cookies, paint, lollipops, pens, pizzas, temporary tattoos and so on, filling his instagram with unique and slightly offbeat self-portraits. LOVE it! 🙂
Tony Futura: We LOVE these awesome conceptual creations by Tony Futura, a visual artist based in Berlin who floods his Instagram and Tumblr with surreal and offbeat images, having fun transforming icons of pop culture and everyday objects into visual, colourful, and hilarious compositions. GOLD! 🙂
Romain Laurent: We love this selection of new animated GIFs from talented French artist and photographer Romain Laurent, who continues to create awesome portraits using the technique of cinemagraph – photographs with a small animated loop. Fantastic work!
Domenic Bahmann: We love this new selection of creations by Australian designer and visual artist Domenic Bahmann, aka Domfriday, who likes to fill his Instagram with interesting conceptual compositions, playing with life’s everyday objects to create funny and somewhat offbeat images.
Werrington House: Yesterday, for the first time in 183 years, Historic Werrington House was open to the public. We ventured along, as did a few other hundred people, sadly it was only open for three hours and there was a two hour wait to snout through the house so uninterrupted photo ops weren’t to be. It’s hidden right in the middle of 70s constructed suburban dreams so if it wasn’t for the new gates, you’d never know it was nestled in there. For many years it was home to the ‘Father of Federation’ Sir Henry Parkes, Premier of NSW on five separate occasions from 1872 to 1891 and is now owned by former NSW Opposition Leader Captain Peter Collins and his wife Jennine. The restoration is fantastic and it’s great that the owners have remained faithful to the historical value of the property – let’s hope they open up Werrington House again some time soon. 🙂
Ashly Stohl: In her Charth Vader series, photographer Ashly Stohl captures her young son Charlie wearing a Darth Vader mask in order to illustrate some of the darkest moments of childhood. Behind this light-hearted reference to Star Wars and pop culture, Ashly Stohl tries to remind us that for her son suffering from ocular albinism, like for many other children, childhood is not only made of joyful moments. Awesome work 🙂
