Michael Murphy – ‘Perceptual Shift’

Michael Murphy creates impressive suspended sculptures

Michael Murphy: We love these fascinating suspended sculptures by Brooklyn, NY artist Michael Murphy, who uses hundreds of suspended elements to create one final image visible from a single point of view. His latest creation, ‘Perceptual Shift’, is made up of 1200 black spheres, forming a perfectly shaped eye if you’re in exactly the right spot and is currently visible at the I.M.A.G.E. gallery. For more of Michael Murphy’s amazing creations, we suggest a visit to his website. Awesome stuff! 🙂

Donna Stevens photographs children watching TV

Donna Stevens: We love the work of New York based, Australian photographer and artist Donna Stevens, who through her ‘Idiot Box’ series, photographs children while they’re watching television, capturing the mesmerised faces, passive and slightly zombified, and exploring the relationship we all share with technology and the media. Fantastic stuff! 🙂

Can Pekdemir – Bone Structure

Can Pekdemir creates unique, organic manipulations

Can Pekdemir: We are so intrigued by this unique series of strange and surreal portraits from designer Can Pekdemir, who manipulates and distorts the bones of his models to create slighty scary and uncomfortable organic imagery. Can Pekdemir notes ‘My studies are focused on reconstructing and deforming the bodies by either altering the physical conditions in which the entity exists, and/or treating them as test subjects for virtual experiments while reshaping the systems we now have and thus documenting the evolvement in time.’ Such beautiful and interesting pieces!

Freddy Krueger kickin’ it in “Are You Ready For Freddy”

Freddy Krueger raps for 'A Nightmare On Elm Street 4'

Freddy Krueger: Ready to kick it old school? We’re heading back to 1988 to hang with The Fat Boys for their rap single “Are You Ready For Freddy”, which was released as the theme for A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream MasterThe video opens with the hip hop group meeting a lawyer, outside of an slightly haunted and suspicious looking house, who informs them that in order to receive Uncle Frederick’s (see what was done there?) estate, they must stay the night in the house. Once they enter, all hell breaks loose, with the scares set to the freshest of beats. The best part is definitely Robert Englund appearing as Freddy Krueger who even provides his own raps. It’s lame, it’s awful, but it’s so damn good! Happy Friday, peeps! 🙂

Garbage Pail Kids Return!

Garbage Pail Kids - Where are they now?

Garbage Pail Kids: If you were a kid growing up in the 1980s, the Garbage Pail Kids collector cards probably ruled your life. Between trashy humour and bad taste, art director Jake Houvenagle and photographer Brandon Voges decided to pay tribute to the famous Garbage Pail Kids, with ‘Where Are They Now?’ photographically recreating the illustrations of these twisted yet beloved cards. Love these so much!!
