Roller-skating has seen a resurgence in popularity during the pandemic as people look for a novel way to spend time outside during lockdown. While the sport has found a new audience and some viral love on social media, roller-skating has deep roots in Black culture, with skating rinks serving as venues for desegregation protests in the 1960s and hip-hop concerts in the 1980s.
